Intresting 20,350 gallon tank idea.

and you have that Dutch StingRay guy ( has a link in Aquatic Predators ). He built a container based tank and the whole proces is very well documented with photos...Go chck it out.

i DEFINETLY LIKE THE IDEA....., ESPECIALLY HOW IT STARTED WITH THE WHOLE HOUSE BULDING THING..... LOVE IT...

YOU CAN GET PVC up to like 24"

Everyone loves Caps lock today...

You could build the house with a couple of subterranean floors. Put the tank on the upper floor with skylights at ground level, and put windows in the bottom of the tank, so you get muted daylight in your second basement, plus a top-lit view of the fish swimming.

That said, placing a large steel structure underground may present corrosion problems... you'd almost certainly need some kind of foundation work, and thorough rustproofing. I wonder if the cost would wind up being similar to just pouring a concrete pad 20' underground and building the walls up to ground level.

The corrosion issue was addressed on the house a long time ago...(copper paint covered with liquid bed liner) and yes this idea is well beyond the 'dream' stage. The containers make up the walls of the structure and not the rooms.

As far as the aquarium idea...thats just bieng tossed around at the moment but the cost per gallon on the project is VERY attractive.

Wolf, go check that Dutch site I told you above.. They made, and photographed, a gigantic tank out of 4 enormous containers..

I have it in my fav's. I looked at it earlier because Arthur posted a link to it.

That's a very intresting design and gave me a few insites but it's a perminate structure rather than the one I'm thinking about...

One more advantage to my idea is that they could easilly be manufactured (reducing the costs) and then delivered to a prepaired site.
