I don't see any info about copper painting further back in this thread... Do you have any kind of link or more information about this copper paint?

I'd be reticent to use the bed liner... if rust gets under it through any kind of nick or ding, it will tend to hold moisture and spread the rust faster than no coating at all. You might be better with a self etching epoxy primer, and then gluing styro insulation to the outside before filling in the earth around the walls. That way you get your insulation and protect your corrosion coating from physical damage when the earth gets backfilled.
 
I think that was a bit of a misunderstanding...the copper based paint and liquid bed liner was for the HOUSE (Only accasional moisture) and not the monster tank.

Oh no, I got that. I'm just thinking of steel buried in the moist ground (I guess it depends where you live) and it seems to me like it would corrode away in no time, that's all.

That said, I'm used to building things for marine environments, so maybe I'm out to lunch.
 
the containers are designed for a marine environment in the first place. They have been used for underground homes for a lot of years and no one has any problems with them. (The design I'm looking at is WAY differant.) I probubly should have given some more details about the process but because the thread is about the aquarium idea...I didn't...

The copper based sealing paint that I'm talking about was developed for the US navy for use on ships. The liquid bed liner was added as a protection for the real sealing coat and as a back up.

No problem at all. If I had the room at our current place or our house in AZ I'd pick up a container and try it out. As it is it'll have to wait until we have our land...and THAT's going to depend on if my wife gets transfured or not...

Tanks can get much bigger :grinno: . Check out the 50,000g tank under the articles section. And thank god they can get bigger. I'm waiting for the day someone digs under their yard and converts the whole damn yard into an aquarium under the grass.
 
actully in the case of these container tanks... bigger is cheaper... a 20 x 8 x 9 foot container is only a couple of hundred dollars less than a 40x8x9. 45x8x9's are available but have an odd structure that wouldn't work as well.
