introducing 2 larger ornatipinnis?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah but youve been keeping multiple longer!-) is there a size difference in your suspected pair shane?
I'm afraid for my aurantis it's the female that's the big bad boss. My male is quite a bit smaller, so much he could look like the female due to his shorter fins with the size difference. But if ornatipinnis are anything like aurantis, my pair are together 24/7, rubbing and nudging, you know you've never had a pair the day you finally have one :D

Lol fitted a divider with cable ties for the minute evz, went all up round the lights too... nah to spoke too thr irons fella mate, ment to pm you back would be hella a drive about 4hrs... got another jar yet pal?

Thanks madou, i read males are larger as far as ornates are concerned?

This is what i found on seriouslyfish, haven't had Ornates so I can only go by external sources but it does make sense.

Adult males tend to be slightly smaller in build and possess more intense colouration in the unpaired fins than females. The colour pattern intensifies further in nuptial individuals.

So that quote is about ornates right?
South coast nelly on here has bred them and states males are larger and have wider faces.
here is a link to a write up he done on another site.

On a side note my divider was dug under today but only the female can pass under, they both seem to have dug the sand away! I didnt realise she could fit as she was on her side this morning and wheni got home from work. I passed by the tank on the way for a shower earlier and she was in with him by choice! Maybe this will work out ok, not sure whether to block it or not as she has no further damage.
Kind of similar to what guys with aggressive cichlids do....
any opinions?

4hour drive is a bit much to rehome the beast , I forgot how far away you are from us northerners your practically in France lol

Yer mate I've got another jar you know me I don't last long without one lol , I got a 6" one from a fellow mfk'r in Birmingham bit of a drive but we'll worth it (check him out on my jar thread;))

Hope you get some luck with your pair of snakeheads a breeding pair would be awesome mate , what's in the 300 these days ?

lol france!-) 300 is pretty boring atm, have the wyckii, plec and suncat, 4 Oscars (2x red a gold and a tiger, and my last rocky baby at 5-6 inch now!-) would like to move my gt in and my 5 star generals but the wyckii is in the way there! thught about dumping them all off and getting a giant snakehead in there a lot lately hence the shot of my old one in my avatar eek...

Justin what i think is the males is probably an inch at most bigger in length but in physical size he is huge over the rest, and the one he is always with is about half his bulk, and darker in colour. there is one that also look male but he stays hidden a lot, if he is out and catches sight of the big guy he is straight in for cover.

and do the giant it will look mental in that 300.

I been spending again but on mini monsters puffers and bumble bee cats lol

Cool cheers shane, what puffers you been buying now?-)
Micro and wyckii? Maybe a recipe for disaster lol.... as you know i have a small one growing out in the 100g, still not sure if im keeping him, he is awesome already tho, so bold, most people say a 300 isn't big enough so im not sure... prob get flamed.

Glad you kept one of Rocky's offspring mate
I think you should go for it with the micro and wyckii worth a try it would be a naughty pair Lol , what did you have the old big pair in with ?
