From what i understand, its pretty hard to inbreed electric blue dempseys. Its a recessive trait, meaning most of the time atleast one parent is a normal jack dempsey that carries the electric blue gene. Mating two electric blues does not give you an entire litter of electric blues, you might not get any in that litter. Or i could be wrong.

As for the sharks, I really hope that its just a temporary holding tank that they sell sharks out of.
the breeding process for a EBJD:
1.breed one EBJD with a normal JD.
there babies are carriers of the EB gene.
2.breed original EBJD with carrier offspring.(parent child interbreeding takes place here).
a % of the babies you get will be EBJD.

;)

edit: you could breed the offspring with another ebjd, but some how its the line is still supposed to be weakened. i think the EB gene itself makes the fish weak, and the more EB genes in its lineage the weaker the fish is

ok, in that instance inbreeding takes place.
What if you just took all of the carrier children and mated them with a difference Electric Blue, not the parent EB?

Like i said, perhaps im wrong. I know one thing, from watching different litters of EBJD come and go, the further down the line they go, the less electric they look. Just my opinion.

read my edit its still weakened.
the right way to breed them is with 2 unrelated blue gene carriers. but it think theres alot less EBJD in the drop compared to the first method i listed

sorry, i repeated exactly what you edited your post with. oops!

Hey, i gotta apologize, The Electric Blue Jack Dempseys are hijacking this thread!

This was supposed to be about the sharks haha.

boycott them, then go to the next store find something wrong boycott them, just keep going, you will find the perfect store one day................keep looking
Welcome to PetSmart can I help you? I know the place pretty well and I used to talk quite a bit with the store manager who recently left the store. He told me that they were looking to get rid of the black tips because they were beginning to get agressive toward the other fish in the display as well as eating whatever they could catch.I dont know if they still intend to get rid of them at this point.I was told that that tank alone cost almost one hundred thousand dollars.

I guess a good question would be, does anyone know of a better store in the Philadelphia area?

By the way, anyone wanting to see what not to do, check out the pet store on 40th between chestnut and Market. I have to go there to get frozen food (only place close) but the fish often look pretty appalling, and the shop smells terrible.
In the city limits you have Monster Pets but they no longer deal in saltwater.Petsplus has salt but they now suck majorly since they've gone big box.WorldWide Aquarium and pets in Upper Darby is still my favorite fish place. The place on 40th is called TradeWinds and became a dive when it was sold a few years back but it has been around like forever, like Worldwide.

The set up in Capt Nemo's looks like the stuff in Big Al's because Capt Nemo's was originally Big Al's.
I am surprised that with this thread being somewhat recent no one has stated about the smaller of the two black tips. There is definitely one dominant one and the smaller of the two if starting to waste away. I was there within the last three weeks and the smaller black tip is starving, it is like a skeleton.

Yeah it was already mentioned earlier about the stores former ties to Big Als but I have not been there in a while so I wasnt aware of the smaller sharks condition, that sucks.
