irresponsible pet owners

this may sound heartless but the right thing for that woman to do would have been to have to guts to take the dog to be put to sleep
rather than for it to go through all the stress of the pound, being moved and abandoned.
They are smarter and more aware and more expressive than a lot of people give them credit for;
but in a situation like that they have no clue
and old pets do get senile
sadly with the economy we'll probly see more and more abandoned pets
so while spay neutering may be "unnatural" it is much more humane
than say "letting her have alitter so the kids can have the experience":irked:
Jeez even my best pair of angelfish are smart enough to figure out I steal the slate from them once they lay and fertilize eggs
Now they are laying them on the side of the tank
And by best I mean Best
The largest of their fry have very high orange coverage

Sure, if it was sick. Being a farm boy, I executed lots of loved pets and livestock. When it was for their own good.
I did have to take a dog to the vet to be euthanized. Because she knew what guns were and what they did. I had a shotgun to her head plenty of times but couldn't pull the trigger with her looking at me, knowing.
She was a true genius. A Red/Blue Heeler cross. She actually understood complete sentences. You'd say "Go get your ball." She'd get one. "No the other one, the tennis ball." She'd look at you, trying to remember where it was. "You know. Last week you left it in the barn, behind that old junk in the loft." Off she'd go, climb up the ladder to the loft and bring back the tennis ball.
One day my dad (adopted) had all the emergency flashlights and radios and fire alarms out on the deck. He changed out the old batteries for new ones. Throwing the half dead batteries into the woods. A few weeks latter he realized he needed some of the old batteries for another project. He explained the situation to the dog and asked her to find them. The next day there was about a dozen old batteries on the deck.
She got cancer. Had a giant tumor growing out of her neck. Eventually she couldn't move her head or eat without obvious pain. She had to go. But no shotguns for her.

But there was nothing wrong with this womans dog. She killed it because she sold her house during a market boom and moved to a condo. No house, no yard. If she had a yard she could just leave it out and ignore it forever.Yes maybe a condo is no place for a big dog. But the real reason she killed it was because she didn't want to bother walking it after/before work.
I can deal with that, almost. If she regretted the action. If she acknowledged the true action.
But the hypocrisy of people! To lie and convince themselves they are good and clean. That the dog would go to a good home, so she wouldn't have to feel guilty. And then to immediately get a new dog! A dog with the same needs as the other. Needs she knew she was not willing to fulfill.
Seriously. People who can't meet the basic simple needs of an animal, should not have children.
And if they do, they should not expect to be returned the respect they are incapable of giving.

I know how hard this is there are a TON of wild cats were I live because no one gets theres fixed and then they dump the pregnant mother somewhere, me and a friend about 2 years ago found three kittens on the side of the road next to there dead mother. Even though neither of us like cats we ended up taking them in and at first they were all at my house, and we said we were only going to keep them until we could bring them to a shelter. But he ended up keeping 2 and I took the other which I'm glad I did because she is the only cat I've ever gotten along with :D

it was nice of you to take those cats in-im an animal person myself and will go to any means to help any animal in need. Humans are a cruel bunch-in my line of work i have come to realize that some people really do lack morals and compassion-they just arent capable of it. there are some truly bad and worthless people out there. and nothing will ever convince me that everyone has a little good in them-it isnt true.

spank- read your post about the blue heeler and they are amazing. my ex and i owned a blue heeler and he was trained and entered in frisbee competitions (my ex did it with him). that dog was by far the brightest dog i have ever owned. you can just see them thinking.

Now, the yorkie i rescued-God love the little guy, he isnt the brightest bulb in the box. i took him in because the woman who owned him got sick of taking him outside (wtf!).. id say yorkies arent really high on the scale of dog intellegence, but he makes up for it with affection and devotion.

I hate when i hear people say they got a puppy or a grown dog and then they are like, oh, we sent it to the pound because it chewed on furniture or jumped on us. All they need is some training.
