I wont lie, mine don't get their water changed quite as much as my fish, but their tank still stays clean. I've also never dechlorinated the water and never had problems.

I also agree that a UGF is a very bad idea. I actually recently changed my turtle tank over to bare bottom to make it easier to remove all of the waste during water changes.

And as to the the salmonella thing...the 4" law from what I have heard has more to do with children handling them and being exposed to salmonella than the actual size of the turtle vs. it carrying the disease. Children are prone to put small things in their mouths, and a turtle, even from a very clean tank, is not something you want them to put there. Once over 4", turtles are much more difficult for kids to handle in that way, and the risk of transmitting salmonella decreases somewhat.
:iagree:Yeap thats the thing behind the 4 inch law;)

well for beginners i wish ppl would read a whole post before posting stupid. rmorse i didn't say for him to keep him in a 10g i reccomended him to put him in a larger tank******** ************. Coura i recommended him cleaning the shell for his samonella concerns. and when i said plant the tank i didn't mean physical plants i meant that if he has no concerns in getting a larger tank then get them use to their native habitat and introduce feeders again. U GUYS ARE LIKE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TAKING EVERYTHING OUT OF CONTEXT. i do alot of work at the spca and take turtles and get them healthy enough to be put in the hands of u. so yes 26 of the turtles went that way. and ugf will work if u use the old ball bearing and magnet technique to clean underneath them or use a filter that will clean the tank space 4x and hour
