holy...... 8 and 1/2"...... another steroid user?? haha, good job.

I am sure that most will not post the number's I post. I am on some other type ish with my "Get big program". ;) :naughty: It's been proven over and over.

Anal fin spangling is this species' important characteristic marking... I am not sure the answer for this either, but if in deed that can be changed by environmental factors... a lot of people will freak OUT........ if kelberi don't turn out to be kelberi.. people can easily argue water parameter is not optimal..... too bad. And if anal fin characteristic disappeared after being put in captivity... that will be another :WHOA::WHOA:wtf argument... that definitely apply to other species of cichla.

Hopefully water and environment does not play a significant role here.

Time to take my son OUT, will resume tonight.

PEACE IS THE WORLD'S MOST VALUABLE TREASURE.

~This is why keeping Cichla isn't for everybody. They are very unforgiving. Because after all that money and time to just be disapointed you are left with a very large Cichla that isn't that easy to just get rid of.~

~ You dont become the best with out experincing the hardships of getting there. I still reference all my note books and logs to track all my paremeter's and what worked and what didn't.~

~ It does trust me. Husbandry/Feeding/ and Water Changes and Water Quality play a major role in the whole process. For example I and other member's purchased our Cichla at he same DOP but I am showing unremarkable growth. For me it is all the experience and having the knowledge down before I even attempted to grow out anything from 1''.~

I learned everything I know here on this site. And will not take all the credit for my success. I am postive that I am getting it right and getting right consistantly because of the knowledge I got here and I followed it to the T. I have my up's and down's like everyone else but I will never be to big to admit when I am wrong and be willing to learn a new way of doing thing's. But some thing's just don't make sense. 17yrs ago I feed live and live only and had great success so those who say there are altenative's. There are but with what result's? I myself am willing to give them my all and give them what ever they need not what I am feeling at the time.

I will say this now and later. 24/7 feeders is the way to go and there in not doubt about that. I don't mean to not feed other option's but PRIMARLEY Feeder's if you want to see these kind of result's. At least until 8'' I feel this is the best course of action. Also if your serious about Cichla then you should invest in some breeders. Young Cichla love Cichlid fry and what could be more healthy for your Cichla then food you raised yourself. :D

And most important and this goes for all Cichlids WATER CHANGE'S make the biggest differnece in the world. All the money you spent on your collection I think you at least want to be pro active and provide them with the best condition's you can afford them.

I don't think water parameters will play a factor of a Kelberi developing spots or not. It's like a few people will say PBASS color up best at low PH, my PH is close to 8.0? I think the colors of my PBASS are just fine.

IMO its just based on the age. As it grows older and bigger it will develop the characteristics of a Kelberi. It's like a young child who grow to his teens. He does not develop pubic hairs on his nuts because of the environment he is growing up in, but develop at the course of time when his body is ready.

Just slow down and watch them grow. Also remember it's proven that there are various difference Kelberi types based on locality correct? So one specie may develop earlier than others and some may not =-(

There is no doubt food, temp, water parameter, and environment will affect fish coloration and growth. No argument about it what so ever.

From my previous post, I was ONLY trying to state if any of those will affect anal fin spangling. Which I kind of agreed with joey's secondary sexual characteristics example. When it's time to grow... no matter what happen, you will grow  Nothing will stop you unless there is underlying medical issue. :nilly::D OR you are not being what you are.

This maybe true with those spangling spots we see in kelberi. Remember couple days ago there were some small adult male kelberi posted?? they were like 9" in size and showing hump and tons of spangling from head to tail.......... full grown sexually active adult male kelberi??

so.... spangle in anal fin = Size vs. Age vs. Environment ???

Again, no right or wrong answer... 1st Amendment. :headbang2

Many hobbyist will also argue that by speeding up a fish's growth will affect it's coloring. Sometimes growing up to fast will affect it's colors, so the say.

I think food will just enhance. If it's in your gene's that your color is a certain way, then it will develop no matter what type of food is eaten. If the color is red, by feeding it certain types of food will just enhance to make it MORE RED.

It's like if I was born with black hair, by eating certain foods will it make be blond?

After looking over your pictures again. Is the spotting on yours more like a solid yellow spot or more of a translucent highlighter type yellow?

Here's one of my Kelberi's when it was like 8-9"... Picture was taken by my buddy when he still had it.
