Is Skynet online already?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, but those automated "killer robot" weapons are not concious and do not have a mind of their own, so without human intervention, they will only do what they were programmed to, they are incapable of deciding what to do.
Until the day comes when they don't listen. Has your computer always done exactly what you wanted every second? From past articles in this thread, we have taught them to use weapons, to reproduce. All it takes is a glitch.

One of the jet missiles almost decided to take a police car out a few years ago, but the pilot overided it, machines can exhibit very poor judgement/recognition skills

AI and sky net is getting closer.
The singularity has been predicted for 2029.
Or maybe we will all just be rounded up and kept in a zoo for the robots to visit.

There is a program to connect all cameras and devices for the government to spy on you 24/7

AI is very dangerous, and I think that there will be an incident in the future which will cause people to get killed by AI, which will prompt them to regulate it more closely, but I think that full human-level conscious AI is still a few hundred years away, and it is debatable whether it is even possible or not.

I’m not sure what you mean by full human level consciousness.
Do you mean that they react with emotions or that they understand what it is to be alive or maybe both?
The problem is we don’t fully know how far AI has come. We only see what is in the news or leaked.
It could be very close.

Hello; I joined this thread with this post and have not read the previous posts so will be behind in the discussion. First thing is I want to at some point to be a cyborg or what ever term will be given when a human nervous system is placed in a mechanical body. I say this after checking a big toe of various colors. I dropped a ten pound weight on it at the gym last Saturday. I did not break it which is good, but it is no where near the fun it ought to be.
Anyway I would like to have the funds to have several mechanical bodies. One would be similar to a tank. Others might include a sports car and so on.

To what I am guessing is the point of the thread I do not think AI like the stuff in the Terminator movies is quite here yet. May not be so far away if the law about exponential development in computing power holds. (Moores Law maybe?)

Here is a thought. What if an all powerful AI surpassed us humans and became truly reasonable, just and made decisions based on both reality and decency. Would be a pretty boring movie I guess. The Robin Williams movie where he played a robot comes to mind.

Consider this if you will? (Twilight zone music in the background.) That the ultimate purpose of human intelligence is to eventually be the means for the development of a non organic superior intelligence. That we are a mere stepping stone to this outcome? ( I read a lot of sci-fi.)

Sorry if I have only repeated what others have already said. Question is it worth the read to go back to the start of this thread?

I believe we are a lot closer to AI than most people think, look at that Google system that was teaching itself to play the japanese game GO and won every world player...

Its just imo a matter of time befofe people work out how to combine everything we know so far into one AI system... add to that moores law which basically states a double of computing power every two years (which in reality is more like every 6-12 months in this day and age) means we could be on the edge and just missing that bit more power...

Just look at computers 20yrs ago vs today... What we have these days is things we’d never thought we’d see in this lifetime...
