They only tested the material side... The conclusion was it is unlikely they are hybrids, but did leave a loop hole or two for the possibility...

Toby, I assume you mean "maternal side", and I agree that the DNA testing was less than conclusive, but would not the fact that when EBJDs are bred back to JDs, they produce hets that produce approx. 25% EB offspring, prove that they are a morph? I mean, if you breed a Flower Horn back to a Trimac over and over, each generation should look more like a Trimac, but EBs always look the same.

So, now apparently people with faulty information are right?
I don't understand where the faulty info is?? All I've been saying is what NC said...He just said it much better...

Mark,

After scrutinizing the sequential testing details… I have to agree that that I believe that it is exceptionally unlikely that Blue Dempseys are anything other than an (genetically mutated) naturally occurring color morph… But according to scientific data, it has not been proved…

Also, above and beyond the sequential DNA testing Blue Dempseys completely appear to follow the standard “formula” (equivalent to Leucistic or albino) of breeding and defy the standard breeding formula of hybrids…

But all such evidence must be accepted as “evidence” and not “proof”… per scientific terms…

Maybe you guys could ID my fish.

I know it's not the best of pictures, but the only camera I have is my phone.
I checked on AquariaCentral and they thought it was a JD. But this fish is JET black and my substrate and lighting is super light. It could be a Jaguar, but I doubt it.

But if this is a JD, then I believe in a "black" JD, whether it's just a sun tan or a gene or a sign of stress, I don't know.

Probably just a super stressed JD... Get better pics.

No one here, or anywhere (that I am aware of), has claimed Dempseys cannot be black... we are simply saying it is a completely normal characteristic and is not the result of any mutated gene...
