Well I posted pics of the female in the breeding forum and they said she looked eggy so I decided to put them together and for an hour or two there was some chasing then over the night they are peacefully coexisting. THeres some flaring but nothing liek yesterday and they even eat together. Is this normal? I was expecting more chasing, nipping, split fins, complete war zone but I have happy normal female and male bettas living together lol

You see, that's not a bubble nest. It's actually a swarm of "Get along" globes. They has a magic powers that make a boy betta and a girl betta become instant BFF's.
Yes, it's a decent nest. I hope you get 100 happy wiggles soon. You have to look REALLY close to see the tails hanging down. Books make it look easy to see them, but in person with regular lighting, I can't see them. Best clue is to watch the male. If he's just ultra busy in the nest, there could be babies. GL!

Well theyr still getting along this morning but the male wont make anymore bubble nests. There is a little white bumb on the females underside just before the anal fin though and she is FAT!! So im thinking about seperating them tonight to maybe "renew the spark" and hopefully my male will make his bubble nest again. What does everyone think? Thanks for the support everyone!! Feed him lots of live mosquito larvae or something similar and bump the temp a bit if it's not already too high. You can also add some soft water to drop the conductivity, or just do a water change. The sight of her (or maybe the smell?) with eggs and her tube out should be helping get him in the mood, and is a good sign that they're pretty much ready. Don't be too concerned that the nest comes and goes. Some males build the nest as they spawn.
oh ok, I was worried he would squeeze out the eggs and thered be no nest for them. I raised up the tempature slightly but I dont have any live food so Iv been feeding freeze dried blood works and frozen brine shrimp. I think my room mate and boy friend would murder me if i even mentioned anything that had to do with mosquitos in the apartment lol even if they arent born and going to be eaten haha. I live kinda in the boonies of northern wisconsin so the pet store here is small and doesnt really handle much. will the food im feeding work ok?

LWP: I think you're doing great with your male beta and your new beta female. It's rather interesting to watch the entire mating ritual when the two of them are truly engrossed with each other. Has the male made any attempt to encircle the female yet with his finnage? When this happens if memory serves me correctly, that's when the male fertilizes the eggs as the famale spawns. But at any rate, I wish you much success.
watch feeding him though, if you do he might become disinterested in mating and more into eating, also if he is in eating mode he might eat some of the eggs or fry.
True that. Feeding during spawning is a touchy thing with bettas. Some have no issues and the male simply refuses food when he's ready. Others report that a day of fasting seems to get him in the mood. It's kind of a wash, really. What I did was feed him heavily for awhile before introducing the female, then just stopped feeding. But having them together for so long is a little unconventional, so many suggestions might be off. If they don't spawn in another three or four days, try separating them for a day or two and try again.
