Is this a good filter?

You don't need lights at all. The fish would probably prefer no lights ever, they're just for us humans who want to watch our fish.

and also, what is a good powerhead to use in a tank with an oscar? keep in mind it is a 55G

and sorry about all of the questions, but would driftwood be a good additiion because of my O??? I can get a large piece for prolly about $15 on petmountain

I don't know that I'd spend the money on a peice of wood in there. The tank''s really not big enough for a grown Oscar and if you add wood it's just going to take up more room. Clay pots would take up less room.

Put a powerhead in there and you get even more turnover. I personally also would've gotten the AquaClear 110 (500 gph) from fostersmith for $80 and gotten a canister later.
The AC110 is sweet :headbang2 good filtration and media basket. Great ! turnover.

I highly recommend the aqua clear series . With their snap on quick filter they polish water literally. The flow is adjustable and they are solid.

thanks for all the help you guys, I really appreciate it and petsmart doesnt ssell just the lids, just lid and lights only
