The quote above is 100% wrong....they get large, and much more aggressive than the OP's listed stock. I personally find Tilapia buttikoferi to be more interesting than GT or oscars though
I have a Nile Tilapia (miss-sold to me when it was tiny) in with my JD and Vieja and he is dominated by both. It seems to have slowed it"s growing now that it is about 7-8 inches but I know they can get to over double that. When it was the dominant fish in a smaller tank it ruled but now he is 3rd in command. Works fine in the right tank and if owned when young. Tiger Tilapias I have little experience with but they sound like they might have even more of a chip on their shoulder. One of my LFSs has them in right now and I never though much about them but after this discussion I'll have new appreciation.
Just for reference, to anyone who cares...I ended up going with a Vieja Fenestratus (Window Cichlid). I was at a LFS about to buy a red terror, but they didn't have any that were old enough to be definitively females (I think the males look hideous, but that's just imho). The owner and I ended up stumbling on the Window's, I looked the species up as adults on my smartphone and the rest is history
