@doctor horn, that first pic on the left is NOT a jd, the one on the right is, see how different they look. you cant always trust google image to show you the correct fish you search for

Texas cichlids DO NOT have red over their dorsal fins.

I dont know if you guys have ever seen stressed out or washed out jack dempseys but they all look like this...

the red is why i assume some are thinking hybrid but its def not a pure jd (also some individuals of other species do have red on the dorsals while others dont, for example argenteas, most dont have red on their dorsal yet mine does as do a few others that i have seen on here)

i have seen/had light colored and dark colored JDs, it isnt the base color that is making me say its not a JD it is the patterning of the spangles, its just a completely different spangling than JDs normally have

also other member that posted pic of the carpintis their similar looking "JD" juvie grew into also supports the fact that some stores do label these juveniles wrong

just saw the pic you added, that fish is clearly a JD, the differences might be slight but they are still there

not really referring to the jack picture.also the line of flower is what puzzles me. If I had to make a call I would lean to the green texas but I do wonder if there is some flowerhorn in there.I agree when fish are juveniles color are different and often change
