Is This A Red Texas Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How should I contact him?

Just search his name on mfk and pm or email(if he has email available). He makes some great rt. I was so close to getting a big headed(for an rt) male that cjbarth produced that another member had in my area.

Chris usually responds within 24 hours. As for the fish posted by the OP and the other members, I agree with Chrisplosion, they are both Flowerhorns. Even though it may have Texas in them(Which I do not see at all) does not make them a Red Texas. An example of how a Red Texas should look like is that it should look LIKE a Texas, with some orange or red or none at all depending on the quality. Below is an example of a nice quality Red Texas which was bred by CJBARTH. As you can see, it has no black spot on its head. It looks like a Carpintis, with red colors. Chris(Cjbarth) has got to be the BEST RT breeder in the US, hands down. Hope this clears any confusion on what a RT and a FH should look like.

Yeah, Im trying to contact him, I WANT TO BUY ONE! haha, how much does he usually sell them for? (fry/juvenile) not big ones.

I think it depends on the pairs he uses. It's best to ask him for the details since it's been a while since I've ordered from him.

Chris...believe what you want. The reputation of this importer is impeccable. They specialize in rare and hard to find fish. Again...I'm sot a hybrid guy, but I do have a lot of faith in people I trust. I have to be honest...if I was going to get one, it would be one of these. The adult specimens are beautiful.

Eddie...does this look like a Red Texas to you? Talk soon bro.

I'm not trying to doubt the importer or vendor as it is a nice specimen. There are several ways to achieve Red Texas, and two of them being Flowerhorn x Carpintis or Flowerhorn x Red Texas. Now not all the fry will be considered some Red Texas as not all the fry come out the same. Some will come out looking like each individual parent and some in between. I don't see any Carpintis in that fish, but that doesn't mean there isn't any in there. Even at a small size, Red Texas fry should like a Texas.

Now I am gonna take a guess and say the OP fish came from Petsmart because that where a lot of the new post on Red Texas are coming from. If thats so then the fish is coming from Segrest Farms who is unable to tell a Trimaculatus from a goldfish....

Like I said its a nice fish and definitely worth the purchase, its just not what it claims to be.

Looks like a FH to me than a Red Texas

Aquamojo i agree your pic is a red tex genetic but not red tex, by the way im in love you brehdori male excuse my spelling, although really high quality bred red tex usually have more pearl and color by 3 inch, not to say the fish pic'ed cant turn out great.
