Is This A Red Texas Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have not seen a Red Texas that is actually RED. Most Red Texas are pink or orange.

Thats why I've lost interest in them. Hmm, kinda like Red Devils aren't really RED neither. Blah

Glad you like it. Just to put it out there, he was 3" when that picture was taken. The point and shoot camera did no justice for his colors.

Mo - while your source may be honest & trustworthy, they are most likely simply selling that fish as what it was sold to them as. Happens all the time in the wholesale biz. Segrest tends to get lots of species mixed up on their site as well, and yes, they also sell their share of hybrids. At least to their credit most are labeled as hybrids.

Below is an 11" male red tex that I used to own. Imported from Singapore where it cost $150 (before shipping) at wholesale cost. I probably should have held onto him for a few more years to see how he developed but ended up giving him away a couple of years ago. In the world of super red texas, still just a mediocre specimen. In Asia an adult AAA quality SRT will start at $1K and go up from there.
