This set up sounds awesome, a jag would def work, esp with all that space. Also convicts are known to breed like rabbits, and are great to produce feeders!

This will be awesome bro, fish that live and grow outside in the sun light look 100 times better + having some live food swimming around you can watch some crazy hunts going on with the jags. I would shoot for a pair (or more) you have the room with some GTs wouldn't even be a problem. Maybe add some rescue Os, I always see the poor things in 10 gallon tanks on craigslist for free.

Those fish come from places where the temperature fluctuates in that range all the time... Read some field studies.
I think you're perfectly fine, it sounds like a cool setup. A huge number of fish in the hobby come from being raised outside in Florida anyway.

Average max temperature range for the Amazon river is 88 degrees fahrenheit and the average minimum is 70. So Mixed with a rainy season I would say it's certainly possible for the water temperature to fluctuate between 75-85 degrees.

Agreed. Lotsa fish farms in Florida use outside ponds and raceways and have been for 40 years or so. I'm sure they are subject to similar fluctuations.

Agree as well. Some of the deepest, widest section of the Amazon (which are usually the most stable) fluctuate between 75-82. So it stands to logic that many of the sections that are shallow and/or narrow have a slightly wider swing.

i have a 4,250g pond (temp ranges from low 70s to high 80s depending on time of year) that 26x11x2.5 any way right now i have 1 jack dempsey 3tigeroscars and like 30 convicts, my plan was to get a jaguar clichlid and a green terror, I know they will eat the convicts but idc. just wondering if that will work out well, or will the jag eat the green terror/jd. and dont blow me up about them not surviving the winters because i can catch half these fish in the river next to my house (i live in south FL), and i have a light heater for winters.
Your good bro, people going to hate as they are haters, your pond will be fine and will do very well, at 2.5 deep you wont see much of a temp swing at all, deeper is always better but with where you live there isn't going to be a problem and makes for a great viewing depth. Cant wait to see some pics and some fish!!
