Is this fin curl?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they are jumping cause of your temp... water out of your tap is perfect ditch the RO... and if they are not eating then shut the lights off and cover the tank...

Welcome to MFK.... nice little pearl.. where did you get him from? price?

How do you condition tap water?
There is no biomedia at all in my filter..
The filter only circulates the water and I remove their faeces with a hose.
I thought at first that regular water changes everyday should take care of the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate so I didnt buy/build any big filters.
april fools?

not too worries..one of my male MM keep doing that... from 6" and now is about 9".

Yes its a common defence posture, mine do it all the time when i stick the syphon pipe in and get too close. I agree with everyone else on here regarding temp and the use of straight tap water,R\O can be dangerous if your inexperienced with it,if you dont add the the correct mineral content back to the water then the Ph can crash not to mention other health issues, keep it simple,a mature aquarium with regular water changes is all thats needed to keep our rays healthy.

Thanks for all the feedback , :)
I've shut down the heater...
Will stop using the RO..

One more question,
I cant find pearls in the sticky Freshwater Stingray Profiles.
Can anyone tell if the pups are going to become black / white pearls when they reach adulthood?

There is nothing wrong with using RO mixed with Tap Water, you just need to aerate it for an hour or two before using it, this will allow the pH to stabilize.

You say that your pump is just for circulating, no filtering. This leaves you with ammonia, no matter how many times a day you change water, ammonia is released constantly by the rays and there is no bacteria to consume it, assuming that all you have is a circulating pump and no bio-media. The only place you have bacteria is on your tank walls.

Your new big tank that you are building will take a month or more to properly cycle, you should consider getting filters for the existing tank immediately. Sponge filters work fine for small rays. ATI Hydro Sponge V - will also aerate the tank. I would put 2 or 3 in the existing tank.

Lower your temp, as stated by many.

Keep lights to a minimum for now, it will calm your pearls.

pearls can vary greatly. What did the parents look like?

Like tank125 said get some filters in there of some sort for some bio media in the tank. Also get some aeration. There is nothing wrong with mixing r/o with tap when you know what your doing and why your doing it. In your case it is not necessay if your only goal is to lower the ph. As far as pearls go they can turn out quite different as adults and you really can't tell from pics when there young as to how they will turn out
