Is this ich

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It sometimes takes weeks to cure a tank with ich.
Just because the spots are off the fish, doesn't mean ich is gone.
It could simply mean there are dormant cysts in the substrate, or microscopic ich protozoa in the water column that haven't yet manifested as white spots.
This is why vacuuming of the substrate is recommended, and most instructions on medications tell you to treat at least 2 weeks.
Dormant ich cysts are very durable, and some cysts can handle drying out, and even freezing.
In northern climates ich reappears every spring, in hot dry climates after pools have dried up, ich reappears after rains refill them. The ich protozoa has evolved and developed many strategies to survive over millions of years.
Don't underestimate it.

^ This. Your water is fine for the MG so continue to treat with the Qucik Cure. Like I said eairler you must treat the whole tank as all fish will be effected by this. Follow the instructions on the bottle and treat for the full corse recomended.

The reason there is all that white stuff on the JDs skin, is that ich swims up from the substrate and when it finds a fish, it drills/buries its way into the skin causing damage (that damage is repaired by the fishes immune system over time).
In the skin, the fishes own slime coat protects the parasite from medication. It is only when the 1 white spot explodes out into almost 100 baby ich, that the medication works to kill the young vulnerable ich.
In order to cure ich, all the dormant or encrusted ich must hatch out into the vulnerable stage.
So the total life cycle of all the ich protozoa in the tank must proceed to be erradicated.

I like treating the whole tank. Just slowly raise the temp to about 88 90 degrees F. SLOWLY! This will not cook the fish. Keep it there for about a week then slowly drop it down to usual and watch to make sure its all gone.

I never used salt but then you dont have the raise the temp so high if your worried. The salt will kill the ich but the high temps will do the trick too.

thats good. He should get better just make sure you keep treating even after it seemed to clear up. Thats when it will come back

They look much better sick with the treatment even they look completly cecovered treat for the full course.
