Is this tank big enough for this stock?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup that's my 13+" Guyana ocellaris trying to wolf down a 7" Green Terror....and thats a small one. Imagine what a 18+" pbass could do!

Oh that's u lol. I thought it was an 8" in green terror . Lol well its still a big fish either way. But do you still have that ocello? If so how big is its mouth? I'm curious as that thing must have a HUGE mouth!

Andrew just get your mind set on building the tank first then worry about the stock. Research in the DIY build boards and set up filtration boards. These posts are no different compared to your old ones. It's like déjà vu again and u don't want these threads turning out like last time cuz it will happen...

I think Andrew is just trying to see what fish he can eventually stock his large tank with. I don't understand why it is ok for others to ask about the stocking of a future tank but it's not ok for Andrew to ask. I understand he is young and has a lot to learn but weren't we all young once? Who taught us about fishkeeping? I think it would be a better idea to answer his questions, and teach him, than to tell him not to worry about the stock until the tank is built. From what I can see with this thread he is being very responsible and thinking ahead with planning the stock for his monster sized tank. I personally would have a bunch of pbass if I had a tank the size of the one you are building Andrew. I love pbass :)

No I got rid of them back in 2010 when I had to shut down my tank...No matter what bass have huge mouths. There's a reason why they're called large mouth bass.

I'm thinking about doing a native tank. But, I know that if I get Lmb it will result in a bunch of "large" fish becoming snacks for the bass. So that's a waste of a giant tank. But, after a lot of thinking I'm probably going to go with the above listed stock. The tank will also have a 150 gallon sump. The sump will be full of small fish and plants to eat any excess waste, food, etc. I might even put my convict breeding pair in there just so that I can have some babies going into my large tank as the pump will have an opening that is like a gate and only allows the fry to get through. Then they will go through the pipes into the main tank and ill make sure to put extra amounts of hiding spots in that spot to possibly have some fry grow up.

bass are really territorial, as bad if not worse then the meanest cichlids given they naturally have much larger territories so you will not be able to have more then one, and they will likely eat most potential tankmates

That's a different species though. There is a smallmouth bass as well. But, bass in general have pretty large mouths. I've seen a 6lb largemouth that was able to fit a grown man's fist and a 10 year olds fist in it. This was one of the huge largemouths my stepdad caught and it had like an 8" circumference! That thing was a monster! It's actually still in my pond and he's grown more since. I'll try to catch him and show him off lol. He is the biggest bass in my pond and can eat a full grown bluegill with ease. But, bass usually have big mouths just not all. I get what you're saying though.
