Is this the end?

What your tank maker says is correct but it doesn't take much extra care or time to make the brace completely watertight.

I agree 100%. A little more attention to detail in this area and it would have been virtually impossible for pooling to even start, in turn completely removing any potential worry factor for the hobbyist once, or if, pooling was to start further down the road, as in my case.

There is absolutely no doubt that when I get him to make my new 120 next year, the bottom braces will have sufficient silicone applied to eliminate the potential for pooling. My current 180 will eventually be taken apart and cleaned and I will probably let it go to any hobbyist in my area who fancies a tank building project. Fishman Dave Fishman Dave may be interested, he's only an hour or so away from me.

Well, things are moving fast now. The tank is going after all, but not because of the original problem, no. The wife and I have decided to bring forward the wood burning stove project. Rather than wait until next year we want it in well before xmas. And, as already mentioned, the workmen have absolutely no chance of completing the job with my current 180 where it is.

So yesterday I went back to my tank guy and ordered a new 120g, which, at 2ft shorter than my 180, allows the workmen room to get the job done. Today the wife and I went and ordered a multi fuel burner and i've already started my new stand for my 120g. The old tank should be out and the new fire and tank should be in within the next 3-4 weeks.

I've taken a "before" picture and when the jobs completed, and everything's in place, i'll take an "after" picture too, and post them both up on this thread. Exciting times. I'm going to miss this bad boy when it's gone.

A bit of an update. It's funny really, this thread started as a potential disaster thread, but has now developed into something completely different and altogether more positive.

The wood burner start date is Tuesday 2nd November. So I have until then to break down my 6x2x2 to make room for them. Incidentally, Fishman Dave Fishman Dave is taking the glass from my 6x2x2 for a future project of his own, I can't thank him enough for that

I already have my new 4x2x2 in the house. I'm currently working on my new stand and canopy for it. I also have my large plastic tote ready and waiting to house my stock whilst the builders are working.

However, due to the difference in tank size I need to downsize my stock too. So I went to my LFS earlier and had a chat with them. They said as long as the fish aren't big, oscars and plecos etc, that they would take whatever I have.

So I've decided to let all my rainbowfish go and a few other "bits". All that will be housed in my new 120g tank are my clown loach, beardless barbs and my chocolate cichlid. I will monitor my new tank set up for bio load to get a handle on my new water change schedule etc.

The big weekend move will be Sat 30th/Sun 31st in preparation for builders starting on 2nd Nov. I'm quite looking forward to it now.

Good luck! Youll need it on Halloween ?

Today is tinged with sadness. I've just carried out my last ever water change on my 180. The next one is due on Friday but it's pointless doing one because the tank's being drained and taken apart on Saturday.

I set this tank up in the autumn of 2015, i'm going to miss it once it's gone. I'm hoping my new 120 gives me as much pleasure.

However, it's not all sad news. Fishman Dave Fishman Dave is taking my 180 off me once it's been taken apart. So it will begin a new chapter in its life in his fish room when he gets round to building it back up.

Here is the last pic i'll ever take of it as it is filling back up today.....:cry::cry::cry::cry:
