Is this to early for black nasty

Duane~

I Look forward to picking your brain when we do the fry thing! Your experiences dwarf my own, and I would find it interesting to see how different your experiences with Monsters may be from mine!

I sure hope that we can have a cup of joe before the next GCCA and discuss this among other issues... I would like a frank judgement of my setups when you get the time......

That being said, where could I get to an archived copy of that TFH article you speak of??

Chris

:D

Morning Chris
I'll make a copy for you for when we meet in 2 weeks, the Paul Loiselle article is in a late 80s BB, I should have a copy somewhere too, although "I think" both are available online. Another good collection account called "Oh Island in the Sun, Haiti" is online@ cichlidae.com.
The TFH article from 95 has a full page photo of a big male, that's what started me onto the haitiensus journey,"only" took me 8 years to get my 1st ones.
It's funny, the longer I do this, the less I'm sure of. I just try hard "not" to kill what I keep.
Here's a shot from this morning

Duane~

Did you get the Wesseli from Garabaldi?? Looks great!

:D

From what I've noticed, these guys grow slow initially (up to around that 3" mark), then they can grow relatively fast.

Getting a pair is a great thing, I'd definitely sell off all but the two pairs and then plan a second tank for one of the pairs (and then sell a pair as a 'proven' pair once they spawn). A proven pair of haitiensis is a very valuable thing.

Yeah, I'm only going to keep at few, the rest are spoken for. I've got to keep my original pair though, for sentimental reasons.
Chris
Wasn't Garibaldi, got the wesseli on a trade from a GCCA guy near you, called Scott, last name escapes me at the moment, not Moreen.

lots of cool pics in the thread wow leafs in your tank hmm what does that do to your water quailty good thing you do so many water changes

as for the stocking of the 90 gallon its not over stocked but that doesn't mean he doesn't need to lose a few black nastys they are very aggressive twords each other i would keep one of the pairs that have formed and move the rest to another tank before they start killing each other the ones traped in the middle are at the most risk or being killed or stressed and have that leed to sickness

as for bloat don't forget these guys need there veggies like salvini cichlids and other cichlids that are prone to bloat a good amount of vegetable matter in there diet will help them stay healthy and fend off bloat

I do water perameter checks about once per week(pH, alkalinity, NH3, conductivity and hardness),and I did wonder what effect the leaves would have water quality. The perameters haven't changed at all, but there are maybe a dozen-15 leaves in 250 gals so as you say, with plenty of water changes it should be fine. The thing I worried about most, would be a drop in alkalinity, kind of like when discus owners ad peat to soften water, but it has remained stable, between 75-85ppm. BY the way, got the idea for leaves from a post on cichlidkeeping.com, where they were in a post that had a good part of the substrate of a discus tank covered in leaves, and looked it great.

They will pair out of Necessity, the ones not paired will get picked off or bloat out of stress from the others abusing them........
