Thanks again everyone, once i get back in town tomorrow i will be getting some juvie jags from VRWC to grow out and try to get a nice female for his gorgeous xanthic male and knifegill as far as i know raphaels use atmospheric air to regulate their swim bladders (they are physostomous (sp?)) but they cant actually breathe well using atmospheric air but im not really sure on that, bichirs do though for sure and my bichir was fine, and the other fish were gasping at the top and as soon as i cleaned the filter and got the water circulating again they were fine so i am pretty positive that is what the issue was, i was just confused as to what clogged it so suddenly when i hadnt had any issues with that filter in the many years i have had it but oh well i think im just going to use it as an alternate tank for VRWC's breeding project for a little while and then ill have to see where i go from there haha narrowing down a new stock list is exciting but also one of the hardest parts! haha
