Its a sad, sad day in NC :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im from a small town called icard but its directly in between morganton and hickory, most people know those two places. i have alot of friends who go to school there. i found a lfs in longview (before you get to hickory) that carries really rare cichlids and if he doesnt have them in stock he can get them. he goes to south america every year and catches F0's and brings them back. so in my dwarf tank all of my fish are F0's. this guys legit. its called the fish warehouse and if you need anything he ships too. PM me if you ever need anything. he only has quality fish and his costs are really low.

oh ok thats cool and thanks alot for the tip! they sound like an awesome store, your lucky to be so close to them... will def give them a call when im ready to order new fish to see what they have, gives me another reason to go visit my friend in Boone haha

sorry for your loss sarah. that is why all my tanks have at least one sponge filter in them. I travel ocassionally for my job and my backup spongefilters saved me a few weeks ago. I left on a sunday and my mother went to my house to feed the fish and said the hob filter stopped working. I returned home 8 days later and no fatalities because of the spomge filter. Just some food for thought.

this simply sucks. how bad did it smell down there is what i am curious off yuck. i lost just a single 8 inch female jd a couple weeks ago and the smell allmost mad me vomet.

Sorry to hear about your loss of so many nice fish, hope you come back stronger and better than ever, good luck

thanks guys, and yeah the smell was pretty darn bad, water still has a slight smell to it so im probably going to do another water change tomorrow (im sure the survivors appreciate the multiple water changes haha) and i went to bed early that night and then stayed in late so i dont think i went downstairs until probably 15hrs later... and yeah buying new fish is always exciting so i just have to look on the bright side now and focus on deciding on where i want to go from here, most likely going to sell the female gold dempsey and cuban, not sure whether i want to keep the severum or not, i usually prefer to keep an all male tank so its kind of odd that it was all the only females i had in the tank that survived (well except for whichever of the geos may have been female, they weren't really big enough to sex yet)

DanG is that a cane corso in your avatar? She is adorable! :)

I'm sorry for your loss. Every time I read one of these threads I get paranoid about what might happen to my tank when I travel, I once left the light timer on "manual" instead of "auto" and my fish had to live with the lights on, 24 hours a day for 4 1/2 days. none of my friends was available to turn them off while I was gone, needless to say it was the worst 4 days ever, thinking about the poor fish dying every second. Thanks god I have a lot of slate rock, driftwood and caves that I guess helped them survive.

When I came back the tank looked like a desert and the clown loaches didn't come out in the open for like 2 more days... they were terrified

yeah I am always paranoid about stuff happening when i leave for the weekend or something, i definitely try to have someone come check on them if I am gone for longer than a few days (usually I have roommates though so its not an issue, they dont know anything about fish but will call me if they see them starting to "act weird" lol)

but yeah so i come downstairs this morning to the cuban chasing the silver dollars here and there, and the gold dempsey and severum are hiding at the very top of the tank, all the logs are out of the tank right now and just the big stones are in their for site breaks but with her i dont think the logs will make that big of a difference, without the Argentea being the gentle peacekeeper over everybody she is taking charge with a vengeance so i think i am just going to go ahead and bring her and the dempsey to petco today and see if they have anything interesting in (our petco here actually isnt too bad, and the adoption fee from the fish brought in goes to the animal rescue)
