Its a sad, sad day in NC :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah even removing one fish can sometimes throw off the whole "pecking order" of the tank and change things quite a bit, when I lost my Blue Acara male a few months ago (he died overnight) the female became an ass so I had to give her away, she would bully all the other fish, some bigger than her. Good luck with your new setup, nothing like starting from scratch, it's so exciting!

Now's a good time to raise a female Jag for VRWC's Xanthic male:D. Hint, Hint...no pressure though.

haha yeah we are actually planning on throwing a couple juvies in there on monday when i get back in town so im going to grow out a few for a couple months since his juvies are starting to turn on each other in the grow out tank he has haha

Haha! Good Call. Im on it!

Sarah has magic water or something. Every fish Ive given her has grown faster in her tanks than they did in mine, even when I had the 265g barely stocked. We live about 2 miles apart so the waters the same, have about the same regimen as far as water changes/cleaning/feeding goes etc, so I dont know what it is.

I have 6 juvie jags with the dominant ones around 2+" now. I think Ill bring her the biggest 3 or 4 and see how fast they grow. Maybe I can get 2 females out of the bunch, divide my tank 3 ways and put 1 female on either side of him for them to spawn through the divider. That would be a good start to get 2 batches of fry with 2 different moms.

Sounds like you two have it worked out. Two members on the same project should be interesting to follow. Good luck to you both! I'm waiting for fry too.

thanks guys, and yeah the smell was pretty darn bad, water still has a slight smell to it so im probably going to do another water change tomorrow (im sure the survivors appreciate the multiple water changes haha) and i went to bed early that night and then stayed in late so i dont think i went downstairs until probably 15hrs later... and yeah buying new fish is always exciting so i just have to look on the bright side now and focus on deciding on where i want to go from here, most likely going to sell the female gold dempsey and cuban, not sure whether i want to keep the severum or not, i usually prefer to keep an all male tank so its kind of odd that it was all the only females i had in the tank that survived (well except for whichever of the geos may have been female, they weren't really big enough to sex yet)

DanG is that a cane corso in your avatar? She is adorable! :)

He is my 19 month old ambullneo mastiff...If his ears weren't pulled back he would look entirely different....He emidiatley sits as soon as I pull the camera out and often shows his pearly whites lol...I am convinced he likes to smile :D

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear it Sarah. It's a sad day in Texas now too. :(

Did you only have one filter on the tank? I run mulitple filters on the large tanks...on the smaller ones I run a filter and an air pump in case the filter impeller jams, which AC70's seem to do sometimes. Really really sorry to hear about your loss.

I'm starting to think it might be a good idea to invest in a battery backup surge protector for my air pumps. Anyone know how long it would blow bubbles if the power went out?

A battery backup is an excellent idea. We use them at the radio station I work for and I use them on my personal recording studio. You can get them in varying strengths and they can run air compressors anywhere from hours to a couple of days. After that you'd need a generator. I haven't put my fish room back together since preparing for a move, but I can't imagine not running my main compressor through a UPS. They've saved me money and dead air too many times to even think about going without them for work, and I'm sure they'd be just as valuable for livestock.
