AMEN!

Anywhoo, when I have housed hatchlings in tubs, I drilled from the inside - out. No problems there. Its just easier and in no way can it harm the snakes (if done correctly) So I just don't see the point for 3 tubs..

Just my opinion.

I saw some plastic drawers today but they didn't look very secure.

What dimensions should I be looking for as far as foot print? once I know that, I'll look for a tub/bin with that foot print, and some height, so that the snake can move around.

Dose anyone use just tubs without a rack system? Or can I get a recommendation of a size shelf and tub I could use?

I don't want to buy reptile specific because they are too expensive. I know herpers use store bought stuff to house snakes.

Maybe I should just build my own shelf. I dunno.

colubrids is what your housing if i remember right. you can get any sized foot print you want. just tie them together, get some 1 1/2" abs or pvc piping. cut out holes 1 1/2" in the sides of two or three tubs. that way the snake can go into more than one tub, so a 18" x 36" tub times two will give you a footprint of 36" x 72". cool huh!

I want to keep ball pythons too.

That's a cool idea dde1878, but I'm looking for a single tub for each snake. Is there a difference in size requirements for colubrids versus ball pythons?

Someone recommended 24" x 18" for corns/colubrids, but I've read that a 20g Long is too small long term?

corns, at least a 60 gallon
balls, at least a 40
these are bare minimum that i have seen used. i do not in any way suggest these sized enclosures. go big or go home, well go big or don't bring em home.

hey you could stack the tubs and tie them together that way. you could even use clear plastic piping and watch the snakes go to their layer.

You can use tubs without a rack system. That is what I first used back in 92. I used rubbermaid tubs sitting on top of heat tape. I recommended racks to you cause it is a much cleaner looking set up. Now about the set up that dde1878 suggested, don't know about that.:screwy:  If I were you Cohazard continue doing your research to find a set up that would suit you and your living situation. Go to a good reptile store, here in the SF Bay Area I am blessed to have the East Bay Vivarium, a store that will help you out and not tell you BS. Feel free to pm me if you have anymore questions.

Hey mr_ifo, thanks! That helps, the problem I'm running into is all the conflicting suggestions of what the minimum space is.

I saw some videos of a professional ball python breeder on youtube, and I was surprised how small the tubs in each rack are for the adults.

I'm guessing that unlike fish, there's more room for the owners discretion as to what suits the owner's space, as long as it's reasonable.

do you have a Big Lots! nearby? i picked up a bunch of plastic containers from about 5 gallon to 80 gallon for less than $30 each... lowest i think was like $5
