i love paddle fish. could you try to get a pic of them eating? thanks

Contrary to what I expected the fish do not swim around with their mouths open as they feed. They make a quick grab for a pellet or even for individual daphnia but they do not swim around with their mouths open. When they feed on pellets they turn over on their backs and scoop a pellet from the surface.

How often on water changes if they are messy similar to koi?

Right now I'm doing 3 gallons or so a day mostly due to having to siphon off the detritus of lots of uneaten food and large amounts of excrement. Right now my daphnia are crashing due to summer weather and I am having to feed pellets and over feeding to make sure they all get plenty to eat.

I generally don't do much in the way of partial water changes and i allow detritus to built up as it mineralized much like it does in the wild, Asian clams eat the detritus in my more aged tanks. Once i get these fish to a bigger tank and figure out how to feed them with out over feeding them so much i am sure it will settle down some.

I'm not sure how they will respond to things like plants and rocks and bogwood in the tank, when I get the 75 set up I'll be able to experiment to see how they react to more "things" in their tank.

Right now I added some scavenger type fish to keep the sand turned over and help with uneaten food. The main problem is uneaten food, these fish don't seem to be picky feeders but they do not gang up on the food and eat till it's gone, they seem to eat in a more leisurely fashion. It's a learning process and I am at the beginning of the learning scale for these fishes.

Feel free to make suggestions, one of the reasons i am posting here is to get ideas from other people, none of us is as smart as all of us for sure.
