Day 7 of the great paddlefish experiment!
I woke up this morning to find a dead fish, that leaves 7 of these interesting fish left.
So far they seem to be doing better than I expected, they eat quite well but i think a smaller pellet will be taken better.
The fish that died was one of the fish that arrived on it's back in the bag, it had never completely recovered so i wasn't surprised when I found it dead this morning.
These fish are nasty as any large fish can be. I rate them with Koi as producing lots of waste, i am so glad I used an established bio filter in this tank. i am quite sure they would have all died of ammonia and nitrites by now if not for that.
Making sure they eat means over feeding and lots of left over food and larges balls of excrement. They are very interesting to watch swim, they use their paddle for stabilization as much as finding food i think.
I will keep up with these fish in this thread as long as I have them. No real personality traits have turned up yet, they seem totally oblivious to what goes on around them. they don't run from a net or my hands when I am cleaning the aquarium.
Any questions you would like to ask let me know and I'll try to answer them.
It would be nice to be able to train them to eat from a feeder ring, that might be the next direction i go as time passes.
