Do you ever have trouble with turtles eating fish???

No, but then again mud turtles aren't exactly super predators, lol

A big turtle will eat small or weak fishes, snapping turtles do their best to eat every fish they can, all turtles are different.

this is very cool if not amazing i would love to have some of these guys if i had room but i unfortunatly dont

Well the big move is over, i am in a new house but I lost one of my paddlefish in the move. The new water was just more than he could tolerate. He just froze up and died, the others were stressed pretty bad but the move was so crazy I had to put them in an outdoor vat for a couple weeks before I could get my tank set up. Now I am thinking seriously of building a 360 gallon tank for them. Nice fish, very hardy and tolerant of conditions but water that eats out the bottom of aluminum pans was a bit much for at least one of them...

hey moon, i know its been a while since ive checked in on this thread, but i just found it again!!!

first off, congrats on keeping them alive and happy!! i am very jealous, and if i happen to find some for sale again, i will be buying for sure, they would look great in my pond, especially if i can follow your instructions and get them on pellets, i think that would make a world of difference

lastly, remind me where you picked them up?

when you say you think they are "dwarfed" is it just because they arent huge yet, or are there other factors that make you think that as well?

The fish "spawn mates" of my fish are now 26 inches long and weigh almost 2 pounds, the biggest of mine is about 14", the other two are around 11 and 9 inches or so, their growth has been pretty much static for months now. I know other long term captives have stayed small as well. i got then from "big fish farms" I don't think he is doing the paddlefish sale thing this year although i have dibs if he gets another albino, I haven't seen any on aquabid or e-bay either so i don't think anyone is selling them as aquarium fish this year. I am thinking of building a larger tank for them, something in the 480 to 560 range if all goes well but more likely a 180 or so if i can't build it myself. I want to keep them in a tank big enough to allow me to house other fish with them, pangasious sharks would be cool for sure with them and I've dwarfed them before too. Photo period has a lot to do with it i think, but hormones in the water limiting growth is a big factor as well and these fish are supposed to be genetic runts as too but I have my doubts about the biggest one, lol
