Jack Dempsey destroyed Oscar over night

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The two reasons I suggested giving back the JD is because it was stated that the O was his favorite fish. Also, since the JD was bother the Jag as well, it's also a good idea to just get rid of the problem fish or house him by himself. I can't count the number of times I've had to take overly aggressive fish to the LFS in order to maintain a somewhat stable community. Thankfully my LFS gives me credit :D

Ok Even with out the JD.
He over stocked
"55g: snowflake moray eel, 2 red belly pacu, hujeta gar, jack dempsey, royal clown knife fish"
He will have problems with another fish next week.
The O will not stand another atack form any one.
He has no one but 2 Pacu!!!
He need to reevalute both tanks and decide wich ones to keep.
Or nature will do it for him!

Pacu (Portuguese pronunciation: [paˈku]) is a common name used to refer to several species of South American freshwater fish that are related to the piranha, which are also kept as pets in aquaria. They are popularly thought of as herbivorous. Their teeth, which may look similar to human teeth, are used to cut through vegetation and crush seeds that fall into the water. Pacu and piranha have similar teeth, although the difference is jaw alignments; piranha have pointed, razor-sharp teeth in a pronounced underbite, whereas pacu have squarer, straighter teeth in a less severe underbite, or a slight overbite.[1] Additionally, full-grown pacu are much larger than piranha, reaching up to 30 kg (60 pounds) in weight, in the wild.

I think you have 2 of this.

Wow I just looked at his tank setup and saw whats in that 55gal. OMG seriously?

Sadly there is another thread about these tanks. The only fish that I can recall the OP having that could be kept is the JD. Everything else will outgrow your current tanks. In your other thread you said you were going to try to get a 125 next month.

Honestly, your best bet is to sell back all of your fish and stock the 55 and 10 gallon appropriately. If you do wind up getting the 125 then you can buy the stock for it but I would not recommend buying fish that are going to eventually need that 125 just in case you're not able to get it.

As to your current predicament...well unfortunately this is what happens when CA and SA cichlids are kept together in tanks that are not large enough for them. Your oscar needs to be in a tank by itself in order to heal. Melafix and or pimafix can be used but good ol water changes and a little bit of aquarium salt will do the trick.

oh, I also disagree that CA and SA cichlids don't mix. There are many CA that can be mixed with SA successfully and vice versa.

I hate to seem like I'm jumping down this guys throat, but this is as bad as some ads I see on craigslist. I don't buy fish until the tank is ready to put them in (space, filtration, cycling etc) I wish more people would do the same.

So yes, I agree. Find the fish you want to keep in the 55 gal and sell/trade/give the rest away until you're able to give them the tank requirements they need.

If your 4" JD is beating your Jag, the Jag must be 2" or smaller. I have kept both of these fish and I never saw the Jags beat up by a JD. I'm not saying that it can't happen. I just think that it is rare and pretty much temporary. Most likely if you keep them both, the Jag will turn the tables on the JD when it gets bigger. With your current stock though, you are always going to have problems. Those Pacu are going to get HUGE! They will need a lot more room. The majority of your fish require something larger than a 55. Sorry about your O. I hope it heals.
