Jack dempsey VS Green terror.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to have an adult male JD and he was stunning. I have not had JDs since for the last ten+ years until now. I currently have 7 juvie JDs and 3 juvie EBJDs. I like the terrors but most of their color is iridescent. For iridescence, I go with Geos.

I have both right now and the JD has been my fav for a long time but I do have to admit that the GT is more out and about and has really been growing on me lately. I'm torn between the two.

All fish are individuals so remember what all these folks are saying is more about a trend rather than a rule. Having said that:

I have never seen a JD dominate a GT. GTs tend to be more offensive while JDs tend to be more defensive.

Beauty-wise, its in the eye of the beholder. I mean, which is better looking? An apple or an orange? Same difference with GTs and JDs.

Both can be curious.
Both can be timid.
Both are easy to care for.
Both grow real slow. I *think* JDs will eventually get bigger than a GT but it takes a long long time for that.

I personally prefer GT but I own both.

I put in my vote for JD. My GT is the only cichlid I own that's larger than an inch and it's really not very good at catching fish, or defending itself from similar sized cichlids (e.g. my black acara and mayan). My JD goes crashing into things as it chases feeders and he always shows off his fins. Neither of them bother my other fish, but my JD is about 3" larger.

I'm more a fan of GTs. The coloration is more appealing and they get a bit bigger. Plus JDs are somewhat lazy and skittish. This is just IMO though.

Man, my green terror is scared of everything, and all he does is swim and he does have a good color but, my jd is 3 inches and he has speckles all over his body, he has a personality and he will jump out of the water and snatch the food out of my fingers! Jack dempsey is way better!

You prob own a female dempsey..because my old male dempsey was soo dominate he controlled 3 green terror's, even though the dempsey was an inch smaller he was alot meaner..green terror's are ONLY aggressive to smaller fish, unlike the dempsey, Dempsey's are fish that are aggressive, and are really colorful just like the green terror. Green terror has better color, but the dempsey is smarter, bigger, lives longer, and is good at hunting guppies and goldies!
