I have only kept one in the past so I can't attest to their personality but aesthetically they are ugly fish in all aspects. I personally don't care for their body shape and it only gets worse as they age. They typically have weak tails from what I have seen. Their faces are just godawful. Their body color is really bleh to look at, I don't like the purple brown to light tan color they sport. With you typically run of the mill lfs JD you see, they have minimal pearling. I will admit that juvie EBJD do look nice a bit when they are young but as they age its they look as if they were hit with the ugly train. Kind like how after years of smoking ravages you. As they age, some of them, their body's start to form a curve and its just ugly.
I mean if you were to keep them get F0 or F1 because anything you find at a petstore is so horribly overbred and possibly inbred just like Oscars. Thats why you see such shoddy and deformed looking ones.
I partly chalk it to up me having kept Flowerhorn so I appreciate aesthetically pleasing fish with not just nice colors but body shape too. Its why I prefer Midas to Red Devil.
hahahahhahahhahaha Any Midas or flowerhorn i hate they look like crap. They look like they have ball on there head.
I personally hate chichlids. I will admit they have some very nice colours, but I hate how they are everywhere. It bothers me when I go to a lfs and literary 1/4th of their selection is chichlids, seems like a waste of space. Or when you go to someones home and they claim to have an amazing fish tank, and when you see it its all chichlids. Boreing...
I dont intend to step on anyones toes here, its all personal preference.
I agree I hate cichlids too their so dumb the way they are always there to greet you. The way they flare and display to eachother when interacting or breeding. Or how about their excellent parental care. It's so dumb to see two dedicated cichlid parents protecting a cloud of fry or to see a flamboyant male dance and flare his fins to attract a mate. And it's stupid how some seem to recognize their owners. And the fact that there are 1000's of species all over the world that can be so drastically different from eachother and exhibit some of the most unique behavior in the natural world s retarded.
Yea I would much rather get a bare tank and watch arowanas, datnoids, and pacu swim around and around and around until I decide to feed them. Only then do they become remotely interesting. And peacock bass are great the way they seem to just drift in the water column.
Why anyone would keep fish so unique and interesting is beyond me...
Not all of them do, it depends on genetics. But the ones that do look amazing lol.
