Jag growth thread....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i guess at 1 female and two and three male.

cich i would guess at all your pics from yesterday are female.

The fish in pic 1 does appear female ....i still would not bet the house on my largest being male.... however another indicator that has me leaning more heavy in favor of is the developing pattern on the dorsal fin....compare your largest and mine to pics of my male and females...
Female first 2 pics
Male 3rd pic

Thanks for the replies guys. In a bizarre turn of events, I got home tonight to find the 2nd biggest fish seeming dominant, with the largest now keeping to the corners. The largest was showing a lot more purple so I guess they'd been displaying at each other.

Today my fish are on the calendar and 5 months and one day old....
The differences in the the types the looks and genetics... In addition to the differences and similarities of the sexes as they develop is the reason for the many "sex this jag threads".... One thing's for sure yours will develop more and then be a little easier to tell... Back on page 8 Jagsandpits posted a pic of his male jag when it looked to be in around the four to five inch range...
That's a helpful pic because it shows what they look like during part of their transition... I think my biggest one is around that stage now... hard to get a good pic of him because he's constantly moving.... Spots and pattern is continuing to develop... bars intensify when he's excited and then fade some ...ignore the fat belly because I feed him to get him to come out for a pic because he's constantly on the move.... Some purple tint can be seen which (I hope and believe )is a good indicator of a male also....

Judging based off the roundness of its belly, I still want to say female.... and not round in the way that every picture in this thread of this particular fish looks like it just ate a whole thanksgiving turkey, but the overall shape of it's body. Also, the spots don't appear to be too pronounced.... they haven't gotten any darker or lighter from previous updates IMO, just weird that it's the biggest out of the group that you kept.
