as an FYI old fish water is just that, old fish water, it has no benefits, the good bacteria lives on surfaces, mainly your filter sponges and bio media, not in the water itself. if your freind can supply some filter medea, that would be a plus for your fish.

Yes when I got started over a month ago he gave me water, his preestablished media and sponge, my water gets changed every Saturday morning with half RO and half conditioned, on my 55g, I do 12 gallons all together at a time, half and half

Reminds me when I started fish keeping some 4-5 yrs ago. Just like you I wanted a big bad ass fish but turns out I found something cool. So I started with hybrid cichlids, since those are pretty common and cheap here in Asia. Then I ran into polypterus' which made me obssessed with them and been keeping them since.

As pops has said, find the fish you truly like for that 250g that would be a very cool sized show tank
