Hey Guys. I Posted a couple of days ago about my Jaguar Cichlid having ICK. The ICK is now gone, but since I wasn't able to do a water change or anything while I was gone over the weekend, I guess the levels got a little out of hand and now he has Cloudy Eye (?). There's a film over her eyes, with a white spot nearly in the middle... I bought some API Meds, but since the whole water temp and salt cure worked miracles, I was wondering if there was anything else like this?

(No pics, sorry, only one that was taken a month ago...)

(Also, what are the ideal water parameters for a Jaguar Cichlid? You know, nitrates, nitrites, hardness, etc...)

my midas got this on one of his eyes and he is now blind in that eye, its most likely bacterial so it is definitely going to get meds, i think i used maracyn antibiotics but not positive, i think it was for the gram negative infection but i cant remember exactly, it really sucks but hopefully if you treat it with the right thing early enough she will heal back to normal, there were tons of great people on here that helped a lot when my midas was sick and im sure they will post here as well, unfortunately i didnt get to it early enough to save his eye but at least he is now healthy. but he only had it in one eye not both :(

and as far as water parameters with pretty much all cichlids you want to have nitrites and ammonia be undetectable and keep nitrates under 20ppm

the best thing to do is daily 25% water changes temp up to 84 and add salt with every w/c

Devder is right. You must continue salt treatment against ich. Minimum time frame is 10 days. This should ensure you eliminate the ich completely. At the same time however, you also need to do water changes to keep up with the water quality. Clean water must always be prioritized. Check your water parameters regularly and do water changes as necessary but do not forget to redose the salt. The salinity diminishes every time you change the water.

Add back the salt per water volume you just replaced. Just because ich seems already gone, it doesn't mean you have totally eliminated it. They'll go back to low lying infection and return again when the fish becomes stressed once more. It's why the treatment course must be completed in at least 10 days to eliminate every parasite within the time frame.

ok, so how do i know if its blind or not..? Will she bump into the glass or something or what?
it would not go blind unless it got very bad at which point the eye would be scarred even after full recovery and it would be apparent

yeah the visible ich may be gone but there are other life stages in the water that you cant see so you need to continue treatment for the ich for 2 weeks to make sure that it is all gone. for the bacterial infection you need to treat with something else though i highly doubt it will go away with just salt and clean water, and i knew my midas was blind in that eye because it looks different now and you can see that it is scarred but thats from the bacterial infection not ich, and he got it after i slacked on water changes for a couple weeks so it is usually a result of continued bad water conditions

go to the search bar and try and find my thread from a couple months ago, the title is something like "midas has cloudy eye?" or something like that
