Jaguar Cichlid had Ick, now has Cloudy Eye...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah i used the tetracyclene that aquanero suggested on my midas and it worked, and yeah you want to treat her eye asap, as this is part of the reason why my midas was blind was that he actually had a double infection so i treated for a fungal infection first and then didnt treat for bacterial until after that so it took longer, the longer you wait the more permanent damage there will be to her eyes, GOOD LUCK

NO pet shops around my area have tetracycline.. on the 20% water changes i do every day i add about 6 tablespoons of the Mortons Salt, A few drops of Ich meds, a couple ml of water treatment (for the tap..), and a couple ml of API Melafix 'Antibacterial Fish Remedy' (Says on the back that it treats Open Red Soars, Fin & Tail Rot, Eye Cloud, Pop Eye, Body Slime & Mouth Fungus, & Open Body Wounds)...

But yea, ive called like 5 pet shops asking if they sold tetracycline, and they all checked and said no...

OK if you can't find Tetracycline you can use another broad spectrum antibiotic. What do you have in the house left over from the last time you were sick? Any Ampacilin or Amoxacilin?

Only if your an adult don't do this if your a kid without talking to your parents first.

heh, peptobismal, thats it... all i ever get sick with is migranes, so all the medication i have is prescription pills...

I get my meds a Petsmart or Petco none of those around you?

if your petsmart is close by i would go and check it out just in case, usually the people have no clue what they are talking about or looking for so if they dont see it within a couple seconds they just say they dont have it. but yeah my petco here has more knowledgeable staff but their meds selection sucks but my petsmart has lots of different medicines but nobody working there who knows what they are talking about lol but yeah so i was able to find the tetracyclene at my petsmart and the fish scene around here is really bad so i think it would be worth a trip for you to just check it out GOOD LUCK

I wouldn't worry about the O2 level. You need to start treating your fish. If you're using a HOB type filter you could drop the water level an inch or two so the water falls into the tank, the increased surface agetation will be enough to compensate for any decreased O2. I do not know of any home remady. It sounds like your fish is developing pop-eye which is a symtom of and internal infection. I have no other advice other than the longer you wait the worse and more diffacult to treat it will be. Both API and Jungle have some good meds for this. I like to use API Tetracyclene but you could try their General Cure too. Just follow the instructions on the package. You should keep the lights during treatment. GL

People that say things like "I wouldn't worry about the O2 level" may not have had any adverse effects from the treatments that they've used. However if you do then their advice won't just be wrong, but it'll kill your fish...
Maybe someone should have said, "Yes use the airline if you have one as it can't hurt". That would have been getting you closer to actually figuring out the problem rather than removing one and replacing it with another.

I addressed the O2 level concern if you read what I wrote (above in yellow), I was more concerned with the infection at the moment. Don't be so thin skinned we are not all going to phrase things the way you would like. But I appologize if you feel you were dissed in any way. I'm am not a big fan of Melafix it might have some thraputic benafit for minor scrapes or wounds but is not going to cure a systemic bacterial infection.

It just worries me a little that the OP might dismiss the oxygen requirements a little, as there was no real indication as to the need for it to be increased. Someone might read it and think "Oh I'll treat the tank now and raise the O2 levels later" which obviously wouldn't work as bye that time it would have already caused damage the the fishes imune system and therefor limited the recovery rate of the problem at hand.

I'm not trying to argue as I really hate to see that on such a friendly and knowledgeable forum. However everyone will have a concern for different thing, even when relating to the same topic :)

Friends.. Hehe :)
