Hey Guys. I Posted a couple of days ago about my Jaguar Cichlid having ICK. The ICK is now gone, but since I wasn't able to do a water change or anything while I was gone over the weekend, I guess the levels got a little out of hand and now he has Cloudy Eye (?). There's a film over her eyes, with a white spot nearly in the middle... I bought some API Meds, but since the whole water temp and salt cure worked miracles, I was wondering if there was anything else like this?

(No pics, sorry, only one that was taken a month ago...)

(Also, what are the ideal water parameters for a Jaguar Cichlid? You know, nitrates, nitrites, hardness, etc...)
right now my water parameters are: ph-8.2, nitrate-20ppm, nitrite-0ppm, ammonia-0ppm. water temp is 82 F, and mine are breeding. just got my first batch of fry. early on mine got ick but the rise in water temp and salt got rid of it. i wish i could help with the cloudy eye. no experience with that. good luck.

Daly water changes w/salt and increased temp to around 85 will speed up the life cycle of the ick and kill it faster. If the salt doesn't help the eye, use Tetracyclene. Keep a close watch on the eye if you don't see and improvement use the antibiotic or you could have perminant damage. This almost always caused by diminishing water qualty over a period of time so the best prevention going foward is keeping up with water changes/gravel vacuming and filter maintenance. GL

Please remember that if you raise the temp you'll also need an airstone and pump!!

If you already have one then make sure it's rated for a tank that is bigger in size than yours. Warm water holds less oxygen than cooler water and if there isn't enough oxygen then all your treatments will be moot!!!!

Some meds will also alter the amount of oxygen the water can hold so you'll need a good air pump in that scenario too..

Melafix and pimafix are just 2 of the known treatments that effect oxygen saturation levels in the water at any given temp...

Good luck with the fish too pal, I hope it all works out for you :)

Should i use an airstone? i have a long green one that doesnt look good/fit well in my tank, and its noisy, but is it worth it? I have a 30g tank with a 40g filter...

I wouldn't worry about the O2 level. You need to start treating your fish. If you're using a HOB type filter you could drop the water level an inch or two so the water falls into the tank, the increased surface agetation will be enough to compensate for any decreased O2. I do not know of any home remady. It sounds like your fish is developing pop-eye which is a symtom of and internal infection. I have no other advice other than the longer you wait the worse and more diffacult to treat it will be. Both API and Jungle have some good meds for this. I like to use API Tetracyclene but you could try their General Cure too. Just follow the instructions on the package. You should keep the lights during treatment. GL

My Green Terror had a cloudy eye, I used a medicine against bacterial infections for it.
I could give you the name but it's pointless because in Europa we have different meds for fish it seems, at least I have never heard of the medicins you guys talk about lol.
But anyway, with that medicine against bacterial infections it was gone after a couple of days.

The spots appear to be fading.. Ive been doing about a 20% water change every night, just to try and get all of the dead Ich cless floating around, and to make sure the levels are good... She doesnt seem to mind... Ill go back to a weekly or 2 times a week w/c when all this crap is over...
