Jaguars aggression overrated?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all my tanks in the living room, I down sized so just 3, 180, 145, 95.

just took this vid during water changes, removed the divider to get a good vacuum. they do not care about the water change they care about being pissed off. these are my 2 F1 from my WC pair, almost a year old. raised from egg. male, and a female.

Great looking pair you raised.

Thanks, growing like weeds, female passed up her mom and she 3 years old from date of acquired at 5", you want a big fish, get a WC pair and raise spawn from the egg.

always love seeing your Jags, Pops....now you have 3M; 1F or what? How many tanks total and what size? And who does the Oscar live with, the female? What are the dimensions on the 145g? Is the 95g standard 48"X18" or is it a 60" tank?

EDIT: already answered one question lol I shoulda read the last page before posting

More predatory than outright aggressive IME. Jags always remind me more of a cat behavior wise where in contrast I see midas, Oscar, etc as dog-like if that makes any sense

That's a pretty good comparison. My success with them in community tanks has been with other large cichlids who are not dominant. Smaller ones can be seen as prey.

the 145 is a tall, 6ft. the 180 is a tall 6ft, the 95 is a tall 4ft , I like tall tanks. I moved on the WC. keeping the 2 F1, they are in the 145 atm, tiger oscar lives alone in the 95, lutino lives in the 180 with the cat, BKG and gibby.

thinking right now my plan is going to keep just the male and let the female go. make a solo fish in the 145, growing as fast as he is, he will need the full tank for himself.

I have similar beliefs about Sals,i have a mating pair n a 90 but they hide all day accept feeding time, kind of boring. but each fish has its own personality. my jags also bossy but not a killer.
