Bit of warped contrast in this shot or something - doesn't look quite right. Apistogramma agassizii male and Geophagus sp. "Araguaia Orange Head"

Japes:

I always enjoy your threads, mostly because I have a soft spot for the eartheaters. Question for you...

How do you get the colors in your fish to come out so well in your photos? Is it the lighting on your tank or are you using some special lighting when taking these photos?

Normal lighting, the real key to the photos is the lens - 50mm at F1.8 makes fluorescents absolutely pop in a realistic manner. I'd classify both of my tanks as having pretty regular lighting, 2x54W on the 75G with the Orange Heads, and 4x54W (only for photos) on the 140G with the S. leucosticta.

japes your my hero awsome looking

Looks like the 5' is going to do quite well in this months TOTM competition. If it does win I'll be running some kind of Eartheater based contest with the prize being my TFH subscription (if this is permitted), as I already have one from February POTM.

In other news, my G. altifrons "Tocantins" was just picked up - sad to see him go. Measured 18.5cm TL not including streamers, 5cm when I purcased him 367 days ago. 5" in a year isn't a bad effort.

Was just awarded photo of the week on AquaticPhotography for a photograph of him though so that will serve as a lasting memory.

beautiful Araguaia Orange Head. and nice pictures. mine might look that nice if i took pictures like that.

Why did you decide to let such a beautiful fish go? :(
