Jardini tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Milkman, actually it's 2.5 cm to the inch, so if that jar is over 90cm it's over 3 foot. It doesn't look 3 foot though. I'm sitting next to a 30 inch wide tank, and no way it looks wider than that.

So del where did you see this 3 foot jardini in a tank in person?

You have no experience of jardinis, you've never even kept one, Steve lives in Australia and has lots of experience with jars and leis - yet he believes jardinis won't go much past the 2 foot mark in more than adequate tanks, and you're adament they'll reach 3 foot. Bearing this in mind, and the fact there are no photos anywhere of a 3 foot jardini in a tank, what's your reasoning exactly that a jardini grows to 3 foot in captivity?

hmm i see the question now... In wild they have a better variety of food to eat and have better water in there home than we would in an aquarium.. along with outher things im sure
also the fact that they can eat how ever much they want anytime i guess would help also

and 96 cm (just over 3 ft), and 5 kg (11lbs) of jardini.
96 cm is 2.66' not over 3ft

theres 3 cm in an " . and 12" in a '

incorrect

how did you do your math? no matter, im not very good at math either, so i took some time in doing this.

there are exactly 2.54 cm in an inch, no rounding. this is the number want since we want presision in measuring this animal.

just gonna do alittle conversion here

multiply 12(inches) x 2.54cm (the amount of cm in an inch)

96 cm | 1 Ft
--------------------------------- = 3.14 ft
| 30.48cm

this is indeed alittle over 3ft

how is there food better??

why cant (dont) we give them the same diet?

they can eat however much they want anytime? dont we give our fish that luxury?

water quality can be kept in check with large fequent water changes.

i kept one about 5 years ago when i was in the 7th grade

was my very first arowana

as for the pic

i did not see the fish in person, it was a picture on the net i found several years ago.

i never did find that web page again.

Well than i guess american teacher are incorrect. We use 3cm = 1 " where im currently in school. so idk... i still doubt that it will get near 3ft.

and its there natural habitat no matter how hard we try we will never have them thrive in our tanks as they would in the wild.. In the wild they have every and anytype of food source ranging from small birds to baby monkeys and anything else they can eat not including fish...

It's highly possible to grow to the size shown in the picture, in fact it's reasonable to assume with proper care & space it will grow to that size but that's not a 3ft jardini in that picture.

yes

lets stay on topic here rumble

It's completely on topic, this is about what size tank is needed for a jardini, and wouldn't you say the required tank size pretty much rests on how big the fish gets?

So you're saying a jardini gets to 3 foot in a tank and needs a tank 3 foot wide, myself and others are saying a jardini is going to get around 2 foot and thus a smaller tank would suffice.

So del what size tank did you have your 3 foot jardini in?

del, I'd just like to point out that you're keeping a silver, the largest species of arowana, in a 6x2x2
Don't forget about the arapaima.
