  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just get one for now see how you get on housing that :D

yea im planning to get 1 for now. i just saw some1 selling a 130 gallon for 160$ near me about 20min drive? ima try to contact him and see if i can get the tank. if i can get the tank ill get the fish. u think 130g will last him for a while?
im thinking of that or order one of the 120g rubber pond

If you buy a small 3" jar you'll get a year out of a 130 then you'll need an upgrade to a 180 at least , ive had one in a 5x2x2 for a while but its cramped and tank mates get smashed due to lack of space a 180 6x2x2 is best minimal size IMO but bigger is always better ;)

yea im doing little research here and there. well i plan is to find a tank big enough first then ill get the fish if i cant get the tank im not going to get the fish. checking craigslist for some big tank for cheap haha

Your on the right road doing your research so many people buy them and after few months put them up for sale , if you give a jardini chance to grow they become stunning fish with great personalities (appart from the aggression towards other fish lol ) my old jardini used to greet me at the glass , hand feed and let me stroke him (swan through my hands) , once they get past the skittish scared of human stage.
Getting a suitable sized tank for at least a couple of years if not life in the first place will save you loads of time and effort down the line but no one wants to put a 3" fish in a 180 so it looks empty ;):D

+10
haha that is so true. but if i were given a chance i would put a 3" jar in 180g. i would love to see it grow. i know what ur talking about when ur fish trust you. well it happen to me with my flowerhorn. i got him when he was like 2-3" i believe. before he use to be scared of me when he got a little bigger i was able to hand feed him and pet him. now he is like 7-8" its the opposite. now im scare of him last time i tried to hand feed him, he took the food and bit my fingers.

Hahahahaha cichlids do that aros are a bit more accurate and graceful about it , I can't put my hands in my jag tank my pair will attack anything that hits the water :D
You may find some useful jardini info in a few of my older threads where quite a few other members have added input , I can't post the links here off my phone though :(

Hey Evz, I know every fish is different, but at what size/age did your fish start to become less skittish? My will swim towards me now and knows I'm his source of food. But it still does get "jumpy" here and there - especially when my wife and kiddies come around lol...

Well my last jar was OK at around 10" hand feeding but I worked at it quite a lot more , hands in tank so it got used to me , food in hand tempting it in etc , my latest one is around 12-13" and still skittish but its in a higher traffic area in my house than the last setup was so I guess he's still not used to it , it will grab food from the hand but its all in a panic with splashes , my other setup was a lot more peaceful too , my latest has got barbs and sd's flying around that probably keeps him skittish as they get spooked easy too
So after me rambling on the answer to your question is ......;) anywhere between 10"+ dependant on all factors , but the more you spend time with him the quicker he'll get used to you
