So im definatly going to a "LPS" to pic up some fish. My first choice will be Nics but in the very likely case they don't have them I would like a solitary ciclid to keep.
Basically I have narrowed it down to these two. They both grow to about 10in for males and will do fine in a 55 by themselves with maybe a few small convicts or as a pair. They will probably be getting a 75 or 90 though.
Anyway I can't choose. They both have thier flaws. Jd's are more shy but GT take forever to reach adult size so I've heard. GT are more valuble though. I don't know what too pick. Which one would you guys pick personally?

my JD is anything but shy i vote him SSS rank :D i cant take pix

I say if they dont have Nics in, try and get the LFS to order you some. If they cant or you dont want to wait, then i prefer the GT over JDs. There are a few members on here with extremely nice JDs too though too.

GTs really dont grow all that slow if you take proper care of them. I am one of the few that say a 55 is too small for life for a GT, especially if its a glass banger. If you are upgrading though then go for it.

If your first choice is nics, take the time to find them. I'm sure there is a store in your area that carries them, call around.

If you NEED the instant gratifcation of the jd or gt, both are great fish. I keep both and think they are awesome, slight edge to gt for color.

Don't keep a fish for its "value." Keep a fish cause it's want you want to keep. Again, take the time to find your first choice. Get your second choice when you get your second tank.

I will definatly search for the Nics but im not going to go too much out of my way for them. I love the way they look though and they are very unique. These guys are kinda like my back up plan. Whichever I get i will most likely get one and a few small convicts for them to beat up on(not apair I know what that means). I'm almost certain I can get something bigger than a 55 but the 55 is a sure thing.

I have both and i would go with the GT. They both have seemed to grow at close to the same rate and while at first the JD was very appealing at about 4 to 5 inches the GT really came into it's own and quickly became my favorite fish.

good to hear thanks for the feedback guys.
