It's because when a newbie does it, he does it with common fish like oscars and channel cats and the crowd boos and hisses. When person who has developed a sense of taste does it with thousands of dollars worth of desirable fish, the crown cheers. Both situations are less than ideal for the tank's inhabitants but nobody wants to say it because now we have a catchy band-aid nickname for it.

Agreed. If you are a newb and do it with common fish, you get flamed. If you do it with rare fish and thousands of $$$ and call it JDM, you are worshipped
