HUMMERS are STUPID!! dont matter what it is H1 H2 H3 all junk...
Unless you plan to off-road in a field or on a dirt road, There to big and heavy for anything hardcore. Off-roading has nothing to do with power, more power means more repair bills when you break. Get a "Rubi" and go with 4.56:1 gears, 4.88:1 if you like to play on the rocks.
I have a 1991 Cherokee with a 6" lift and 35" tires, stock motor and trans. with an "atlas transfer case" and dana 60's front and rear, has never been stuck or broke on the trails.

Silly man...My cousin went on a hummer trip. It was mostly H1 but some H2 and OMG you would not believe the stuff these hummers can do! Have you ever driven one or even seen one off road? MONSTERS! They tackle things I could never see a jeep taking on. Atleast not a stock one.

An H2 is a Tahoe with a body kit. Have you seen their tie rods? I think Volkswagen has more meat in theirs:ROFL:

Edit: this is the result of a quick search:

the only good hummer is an h1 alpha its got the duramax, if you can get an open valve turbo m35a form the military they sound like a jet engine taking off at full rev.

H1 hummers are the real deal, but good luck getting your hands on one at an affordable price. H2 is really a Tahoe and the H3 is a jokingly costumed up toy for the person who wants to spend money on something oversized, underpowered, and will never leave the pavement.
To get back to the original poster, are we going new or used or you don't care?
I had an 85 Cherokee 2wd back in the day. I had a buddy who worked for Ford Racing build me the entire linkage and supports out of chromoly. We went to the Salt beds, Glendora Mountain Range, Azusa Canyon just about every other weekend and I watched all other guys get stuck, break tie rods, break axles, and need help while this Cherokee zipped through it all. Not so good for rock crawling, but amazing for high speed runs, burm running, hill climbing, mud bogging, etc.
Easy to work on, easy to swap parts, and a blast to have.
