Basicly in plant filtration plants prefer to eat ammonium so that has to become depleated befor the plant will chose to eat nitrats
I didn't know that. Where can I read more on this topic? I knew plants can utilize nitrites but prefer nitrates. I've never known about ammonia and ammonuim. Although, now that I am thinking about it, ammonium nitrate, NH4NO3 is a common nitrogen fertilizer.

Tonights horrifying discovery the filter off amazone that was such a "great deal" Died. In an act of desperation i have done a 50% water change and installed a bulkhead and rigged a very geto drip system. I pulled the secound filter off the oscar tank and set it up it is no where near big enough but I am financially tapped out with nothing left to give.

I'm going to make a stiff drink now and watch a movie hoping that tomorrow will be a better day.

Nitrates are at 0 today we are in the clear.

Had to rebuild a 31 year old snow blower yesterday got my mind off the tank. Will get a how to and advice video on the tank done soon.
Thanks to everyone for your advice. Including the brilliant PM i got about reseeding the crashed filter with media from my filter on the 120 your a silent hero to my fish!!

Well just stopping in to update.

Tank has leveled out every thing is going great now. The guppies in the 300 have started to bread again. I lost my breading males with blue tails in the spike. So I had to wait for the guy at my LFS that raises fish also to pull me out only male feeder guppies with blue tails. Out of the 7 he found for me Thanksgiving has let 3 live and start breeding. I also have experimented with tetras and danios to see if i can find a bread he will not eat.
on the not good idea list all bought in sets of 3
Black striped tetra - Seemed to disappear randomly in the night the longest survived 1 weak and 2 days
Red eye tetra - I new with the red they had no chance but it was a fun 2 days well it lasted
Red tail Borneo tetra - I also new this would not work but these had to be the most fun to watch him hunt they were gone in 2 hours
short body black stripe - He ate the first to in the first day but the smallest seemed to join in with the guppies and survived for 2 weeks
zebra danio - The only fish jojo decided to go after as they tried to take a liking to his pot 2 days
Giant danios - I figured because of there color being the same as a guppies they would get left alone boy was i wrong they where gone by morning 12 hours latter

Out of all the test who one
Silver tetras - In the first day he ate one but going on 3 weaks i decided to up the ante and put 5 more in bringing the total to 7 over the next weak he ate one more but the other 6 have lived on.

Any ways thanks for reading have fun!!!

Hey guys and girls

But i thaught you all would get a kick out of the end of my last video I made reviewing a water proff camera. At 3:40 secounds in on this video i mount the camera on a cleaning rod and use it to take video in the 300 gallon tank.
