i dont know if its ture but somewhere ive read that females can store enough sperm for 6 batches and can be pregnant at a young age.

Yes thats correct. The females do store sperm so they can drop several batches of fry from one mating. So if a female guppy has been kept with a male, assume it's pregnant and will stay pregnant ;)

They also start breeding at quite a small size. Your baby guppys will start having more baby guppys in a few months, so the breeding is exponential. Hence their other name of Million Fish. :D It's better if you can seperate out the males as they grow. That way the females will grow bigger before you breed them. The small females may only drop 5 or 10 fry to start with, and it seems to slow down their growth.

They will eat some, but if the tank has plenty of cover and you keep them well fed heaps will survive. After a few days the fry are big and fast enough to avoid being eaten.

I was given a tank and 12 guppys... The tank wasn't even planted :screwy:

Nice.. haha

I have a community tank, would that be a big problem? I plan on dropping about 15 more guppies in there.. [Already have a male and female plan on dropping 3 more males and 12 females]

In a community tank MOST of the fry get eaten. I had to drop a little kribenis in that tank to keep the numbers down. It's not so little now, and basically just lives on guppy fry. Well it never comes out to feed on fish food, there are no guppy fry to be seen, and it's in great condition ;)

You can use a breeding net that hangs on the side of the tank - pop the fattest female in there with a handfull of moss. When you see fry haul her out and just raise the fry in the net for a few weeks untill they are big enough to avoid being eaten in the main tank.

Otherwise set up a little breeding tank, just 5 gals is plenty. Pop female in there, wait for the fry, then move her back to the main tank and let the fry grow.

I'v always hoped that when i feed my Oscar that some of the gups survive and breed. Never happened though.

Okay thanks. Now I have to study how females look when their preg. :)

Fat and bloated. You will also see a "gravid spot" immediately in front of the anal fin. (Dark area.) The fish will also seem squared off before giving birth.

Males have a gonopodium. Get 2-3 females per male, and get java moss as cover for the young. Some salt will not hurt either. Use a spongefilter if possible.

males are color ful and females are mroe bland thats a general description

sit back and relax ..you will have many more guppies :D
