Just bought guppies, how do I breed them

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hijack this thread abit, but I am going to the LFS probably today, trading in some fish, and getting some guppies probably. I have to order some plants though, about 75% of my surface is covered in S. natans, so hopefully this will be enough for now, until I can find some guppy grass.

The filter is the juwel's internal one, I was thinking about getting a tetratec 1200 but fear this will be way overkill. Im going to give the internal a good clean today, and then judge if I need another one.

Just make sure your filter isn't too powerfull or it will suck up the guppy fry.
In that tank I had an Eheim 2008 internal filter and each week I would pour the guppy fry out of it :screwy:

Its a situation where an undergravel or sponge filter is a good idea :)

Cheers

Ian

My gups died spontaneously too. Never got more...

I bred the fancies for a few years. Keep ur tank around 80 or so, no need for salt. The feeders are the same pretty much, as long as your ph is stable and your temp. is stable, they'll breed in a puddle. lol ;) The male's ventral fin (or the fin by the poop hole) is more like a spike where the female's is full. They're also usually smaller and more colorful. :) Just put a bunch in the tank and you'll get babies (2 females to 1 male usually works best for me). If you find your babies getting sucked into your intake, put a knee high stocking over the intake, it usually helps out ALOT. :D Other than that, just feed them and give them time, they love frozen bloodworms too. ;)

Good luck!

Yea, I think I got a pregnant one, so I threw her in the other tank, its a little 1 gallon, but its only temporary for the guppies.

I believe this should be stickied for breeding guppies.

Nah, it's just a mess of questions. If someone were to write a comprehensive guide on breeding guppies, that would be stickied. Besides, guppies aren't really a "monster" fish.. they're only feeders!
