just got my 55gal. tank

i dont have a large pot but i do have a bath tub i can let it sit in. should i do that?
 
Since you can't boil it soak it in hydrogen peroxide in the tub for a few minutes each side to disinfect then soak in hot water sevral times then let it soak for several days, changing water a couple times each day, if it still leaches color or grows fungus after that get a new piece of wood.
 
thankx. 1 Q though. does the HP have to be deep enough for the wood to completly sit in it or can i just rub it on the wood?
 
i took it out abt 2-2.5 hrs. ago and i can already notice a differance in the water clarity. i'm gunna soak it in a trash can for a few days bec. ppl are comin over for thanksgivin. then i will move it to the tub. if i dont use dechlor, do u think the chlorine will kill the fungus?
