Just got some Butterflies!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think I'll try the crickets. I have baby guppies, but I think they would be too fast for him to catch. I'll let ya'll know how he does. Thanks for all the help and comments!

they are extremely fast when they want to so no feeder is too fast. great fish, just a little.. ..inactive. they are also great jumpers so just like someone before me said, cover the tank. I saw the plants, get some floating plants too, they're perfect for their ambush style hunting, they take pellets, small feeders, shrimp, flakes.. ..allmost anything but since they are not very active they don't feed as often as most fish. Small crickets should be the best bet. :)

good luck :)

How big of a tank do they need?

awesome fish,my first predatory fish but beat to death by a senegal bichir, didn't see that one coming.

My senegals are still pretty small, so I don;t think I'll have to worry about the butterflies being beat to death.

how longs it been since he ate, maybe he's eating when ur not there, how long have u had him

You could always try medium cichlid pellets, my butterflies love them. Additionally i have one butterfly that follows my biggest senegal around all day, its actually really funny to watch, so i dont think you will have any trouble with that combination. Just be careful when you are doing waterchanges, you leave the lid off for a couple of minutes to dump the water out of your bucket, and you come back to find all of the butterflies have tried to escape, and you have to revive them (carefully moving them backward and forward in the tank to get water through their gills seems to work nicely).
