Just how secure are fish tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I sometimes worry alot about my large tanks splitting at the seams! What triggers these worries is when i read on here quite often that peoples tanks have exploded etc BUT then again like the other person said,IF it happens it happens! As long as they are WELL BUILT! There shouldnt be a problem....BUT I STILL WORRY ABOUT IT FROM TIME TO TIME.

most of my tanks in my fishroom were from before the cross braces became popular. I had the tanks since the early 90's until just this past october..
I have seen some tanks that were bowing outward that could have used a cross brace.

honestly, i don't really get the point of this thread...

if we tell you tanks are extremely insecure, is it going to stop you from using tanks?
if we tell you tanks are extremely secure, will it make you feel different about the tank?

I think you guys misunderstood what I was asking. Im not sitting here waiting for it to happen. Im just asking for opinions and just how strong tanks really are. Look at 12 volt mans post, thats the kinda responses I am looking for.
you're getting opinions... it's just some are pretty dam funny.:ROFL:

i had a stand that held a 37gal that held for almost 6months and on nite i heard a snap the stand broke the tank didn't fall thank god but I drained it half way and went back to sleep when i took the tank off the wood started to split

If you think a conventional tank is scary, did you ever see an Amano (ADA) tank? You can't even see the silicone bead, not to mention it's trimless...

Not really. I guess I wanted to know if tanks are as secure as most people think. I mean, there IS a risk with owning a tank. Hearing posts saying they've had tanks running for a decade and no problems, is the kinda post I like to hear. This means that they are pretty durable.

Hows it funny? This is a serious question being asked. Anytime someone posts a question cause they wanna know something, they shouldnt be insulted for it. Ive noticed that alot on MFK, someone asks a question, and people joke and insult them. I dont know about you, but alot of people including me dont think a broken tank and a flooded room is funny.
