Hows it funny? This is a serious question being asked. Anytime someone posts a question cause they wanna know something, they shouldnt be insulted for it. Ive noticed that alot on MFK, someone asks a question, and people joke and insult them. I dont know about you, but alot of people including me dont think a broken tank and a flooded room is funny.

It's all good dude, I know what you mean. This is honestly a legit question. You want to know how durable and long lasting they are. Also if anyone has ever had their tanks just crack etc. I mean if others don't want to answer or respond negatively to your question, just don't bother to even notice, it happens alot here. I mean with like thousands of thousands of people I guess what can you expect, some are rude but the majority of us are pretty cool people and love to help others(like me, lol.).

Look at it this way, if there was a safer, better way to build tanks rather than using sheet glass and silicone wouldn't that be what you see?
My LFSs use tanks made this way and if it's good enough them, it's good enough for me.
Besides, silicone won;t simply fail without warning, it would leak first surely?

I think that if the whole silicone/glass issue is keeping you awake at night, get on with digging a pond...

As for stands, I would only ever use a really cabinet built for the purpose or a box steel frame.

Of course, but after time a stand could give out. Someone could build a stand and it will hold initially, but since its not strong enough it will give way sooner or later. So saying if it holds, its good, is not a correct answer. And about the tanks, I jsut want opinions on how secure they really are. I mean, if you think tanks are invincable then you are foolish. Remember, its glue and plastic holding glass thats under pressure by tremendous amount of weight. So asking a question like this isnt paranoid.

do a google search on arches. 99% of tank stands are made with a series of arching metals. in science, the arch is the strongest structure when holding against resistance from a point of force coming in toward its outer center. their not just a bunch of pretty designs on your framework.

also, if you got those rectangular stands, unless you made them yourself, they should have arched wiring within the plywood.
